Prophylaxis & Dental Hygiene

Prophylaxis and careful, regular cleaning of your teeth is the most important measure to preserve your own teeth. In addition to daily dental care at home, you should have your teeth regularly examined and professionally cleaned once or twice a year.

Prophylaxis - various important measures

Caries risk test

The so-called "buffer capacity of the saliva" provides information about the caries-causing bacteria in the saliva as well as the protective function of the saliva against caries. With a saliva test we determine your personal "caries risk".

This enables us to develop measures that are individually tailored to you to prevent the development of caries.

Did you know that an infant is born without caries germs? These germs are often transmitted by mothers or other caregivers, e.g. by licking the pacifier. This fact alone is an important reason, especially for parents, to have such a test done.

Fluoridation

This measure protects against caries. The enamel surface is treated with special fluoride pastes, varnishes or gels that form a kind of protective film on your teeth.

Tooth Sealing

In the small irregularities and cracks in the tooth surface, the so-called fissures, food remains can settle. This is unpleasant and not good for your teeth. A special varnish, which is simply applied, provides relief and prevention.

Cleaning training

The right oral hygiene for home should not be missing! We give you tips and advice on cleaning techniques and the right choice of hygiene utensils.

Definitely YES! - Brushing your teeth regularly at home, even in combination with prophylactic measures, is by no means sufficient to prevent caries and periodontitis. Hard and soft plaque, which forms especially in the interdental spaces, requires special hygienic measures, the "professional tooth cleaning" (PZR).

What exactly is professional tooth cleaning?

Professional tooth cleaning is carried out by a specially trained dental hygienist and includes the following steps:

  1. Thorough examination of the teeth.
  2. Removal of hard plaque (tartar, discoloration) on the tooth surface and in the interdental spaces and rinsing of tooth pockets.
  3. Removal of possible stains caused by coffee, tea or nicotine by using Airflow, a special powder jet procedure.
  4. Removal of soft deposits (plaque) using gentle hand tools (brushes and dental floss) and pastes.
  5. Polishing and fluoridation of the teeth. Creation of a smooth tooth surface with resistance to bacterial deposits and acid attacks.
  6. Advice for dental care at home.

The treatment is recommended to be performed at six-month intervals. However, health aspects, for example the intake of medication, must be considered and individually evaluated.
